When my roommates went back home to Texas, I turned their room into a camera obscura.

The neighbors across the street probably think someone’s been murdered since the windows have been boarded up for a few days.

And to be honest, since so little light gets in with such a small hole, I guess the plants are dying.

I bought a slab of wood at the green market and things got out of hand after that.

Anyway, there’s a unicorn head mounted in the apartment now. It bled colorfully. My roommate said it tasted like Skittles.

You should see the chupacabra fur coat I have in the closet, though. I know it looks like mink but trust me. It’s chupacabra.

I designed and printed a poster about how much I missed Texas. Since there were a lot of homesick Texans stranded above the Mason-Dixon Line, I printed 49 more.

These posters, like everything else in the gift shop, are pay-what-you-want.

But can you really put a price on how much you yearn for a pound of crawfish and a can of Lone Star when all you can get up here are clams and Brooklyn beer?

Yeah, I hope so. With shipping and handling, too.

These particular posters are only on a limited run of 50, but if you’re looking for a poster that’s more Texas-neutral for those who live outside Houston and/or still live in Texas, it’s coming.

Yeehaw.

A lot of help went into getting these posters to where they are, not only physically in a box in my room, but also digitally on Pinterest where I’ll be looking for people to sue. Big thanks to Dave O’Connell (who wasn’t born in Texas but got there as fast as he could) who got these printed like a pro, because he is a pro, my roommates copyrapper and coffeebites who know exactly what I’m talking about and Tom for having friends on the internet and ordered an official Texas flag. Hardcore, bro.

When I showed my mom 3erd, a personal favorite, she said she didn’t like it cause it gave her a headache. So for the mother demographic, I’ve spared you the headaches of having to see faux three-dimensional, rapidly-moving animated gifs and instead provided you with the headaches of having to see faux three-dimensional red/blue photographs.

Except you probably don’t have red/blue 3D glasses, which is a bummer.

So I’m going to mail you some if you want (I’m talking to the general demographic now and not just mothers). And I’ll probably draw something on it so we can have a deeper connection with these glasses and so you won’t throw them around the apartment all willy nilly.

I only have 30, though, so it’s first come, first serve*. Holler if you want a pair (via email, Twitter, Tumblr, face-to-face).

*Though, I’m going to give preference to my mom despite her tardiness because she probably wants a pair but is pretty slow with e-mail. Moms, y’know?

I had a hard time fitting the words into the shape of Texas, so I thought, “This poster would’ve been a lot easier had I lived in Wyoming for 24 years.”

And then I thought, “Yeah, but then I would’ve had to live in a Wyoming-shaped state for 24 years.”

I made this poster cause I miss a lot of things in Texas. It doesn’t fall in the order presented, of course, except for friends and family part, and even with that, I love them both equally.

I’m looking to put it in the Gift Shop some time. I’d also like to get it screen printed. So look forward to that as soon as I find someone who knows what they’re doing.

Update (3/28): Thanks to interest due to genuine Texas pride (yeehaw), I was made aware of the mistakes in the poster like three repeated items and a bad grammatical error. Now if there was only an interest from a screen printer to hook a brother up.

I take photographs with a non-phone camera, which is my preferred method of taking photographs, which puts me in a weird spot when I got an Instagram account because I didn’t know what to do with that new method of taking photographs. So I do this.

I’m in need of some expert bust sculptors and portrait painters so the Kings, Queens and Jacks of spades and hearts don’t look like they were sculpted and drawn with Play-Doh and a Bic mechanical pencil (cause they were). So after that big hurdle’s cleared and it goes through KickStarter, you can see them in the clearance bin of your Walgreens or CVS.
