Thoughts About Disney

thoughtsaboutthoughts:

A while back, I posted a map of where Disney princesses hailed from. It turned into a whole fiasco because of all of its inaccuracies. The lack of research was my fault, but I’m a man talking about Disney. What did you expect? I had Indian friends growing up and we played music from Aladdin in band and the chart was made well before The Princess and The Frog came out.

The Disney map got so many notes on Tumblr with people giving their two cents on the matter. Then it died. And then it came back up again somehow. And it’s been a shameful mark of my past, much like Song of the South was to Disney (swish) and it kills me to see it pass on from weblog to weblog knowing that the information’s wrong.

So to atone for my sins, here is a new infographic based on the Disney Animation Canon. And despite it not mentioning much about Princesses, I’m quite positive I will still get hate mail.

To be one step ahead (swish again!) of the questions, I’ll address some things before you can: The gender graph is based on the main protaganist, which is often the title character, like Bambi. The number in the parentheses are the amount of short films there are in the packaged film, which counted towards the gender tally and the other info. And finally, the difference between magic and spell, I think, is that a spell can be broken.

If you’re planning on sending love mail, you can expect to see this chart in the shop soon.
